Was it wrong of me to feel so disgusted and violated when I recently discovered a former colleague of mine was putting herself (or himself...) forward for a top press award? The answer could of course be yes, it is wrong of me to feel this way - I should be happy for said person - let's call them Journo X - that they've come so far and are now in the position where they can aim for the top like this. However, Journo X is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the dumbest people I have ever met in my life.
It not only angers me, but it upsets me, because Journo X's spelling is atrocious, their grammar disgraceful and their overall grasp of the English language is shocking. As a person who was forced to edit a lot of Journo X's "articles" I often came across what I can only describe as illiterate nonsense.
Whether Journo X will walk away with an award or not remains to be seen - but if they do then it's an indication that literally anything is possible.
Am I being too harsh?
Not at all. xx
