Hello?
Oi, Topshop Unique! It's Cruella de Vil calling. She wants her wardrobe back.
There's been quite a lot of hype surrounding Topshop Unique's new collection for Autumn/Winter 2011 and I awaited its unveiling with eager anticipation. But rather than feeling completely inspired and blown away I was left feeling quite empty and underwhelmed. Not to mention rather worried about the future of Dalmation puppies in the United Kingdom...
The Cruella look aside, I am genuinely disappointed by the Topshop Unique collection. It's all really rather drab and dull - I know it's the autumn winter collection and it's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from the bold bright colours of spring/summer but I really do believe that more colour should be injected into winter clothes. There's too much black, navy and grey in this collection - now don't get me wrong, I love a little black dress, I wear big knitted grey jumpers but I always wear a splash of colour with them too. Whether it's a scarf, belt, shoes or a bag, I feel it brings an outfit to life. Particularly when it's already so grey and miserable outside - we need a bit of colour just to brighten ourselves up.
The clothes themselves - the style, the cut - I like, for the most part. I just wish they were a little brighter. There are some I wouldn't dress my dog in and others that are just shapeless and frumpy, but the majority of them are quite chic and elegant with their nipped in waists, fitted cuffs, peter pan collars and v-shaped necklines.
What I love most? Easy. The shoes.
-PS- what is with the minnie-mouse-ears hair styles?
I love this blouse, hate the material of the skirt - this would have been so much better with a brightly coloured bag.
Love, love, love the shoes.
I think this jacket is amazing - and look it's not too much of a dreary dull colour - but the animal print ruins it. On a brighter note, the shoes are FABULOUS.
There's only one thing right with this outfit. You guessed it. The shoes.
Not even the shoes save this.
This is my ultimate favourite of the collection. Yes it's black but it should be. It's so chic and elegant and I would wear this with pride. With the tights and the shoes. And even the black bag.
Yes to the jacket. Absolutely no no no to the dress and socks. Hello to the shoes.
Thank god for shoes.
There is nothing even remotely nice about this outfit. This poor model looks like she's escaped from the set of Prisoner Cell Block H.
Second favourite outfit of the collection. Two outta....49 ain't bad.
