I love vintage - particularly jewellery - but one of my annoyances about it is that stores find it perfectly acceptable to charge a ridiculous amount of money for an item of clothing that is, in layman's terms, second-hand. They stick a 'vintage' tag on it and feel it gives them a license to rip you off. I can understand if it's vintage Chanel or Dior - but if it's just an item of clothing that your mum had hanging in her wardrobe in 1970 then I find it very hard to justify parting with my money. Especially because my mum still has many of her clothes from the seventies packed up in boxes in the loft "just in case they ever come back into fashion" - she's no daft my old dear.
So as much as I love it, my inner frugal being generally kicks in when I look at the price tag. However that's not quite the case with We Love To Boogie. Here we've got the best of both worlds - vintage clothes at (wait for it) REASONABLE prices. Be still my beating heart. I'm literally salivating at the thought of actually going out and purchasing some of the fabulous items they have in store.
We Love To Boogie has a beautiful mix of vintage and designer vintage clothes, shoes, bags and jewellery - both for men and women. I am honestly so excited about the prospect of going here to shop that I might not be able to sleep tonight. And if that sounds shallow then I don't care. The last time I got this excited about going shopping, believe it or not, was when I stepped through the doors of Celine in Rome and had three extremely handsome (but extremely unavailable) Italian men help me pick out my darling brown leather tote which would have had to have been surgically removed from my grasp during the first year I owned it.
I've spent some time creating (yet another) List of Lust for this particular store - and here are my top picks...
I love this 1970's style lace dress - it's so girly and delicate and it would be perfect for a warm summer's day/night. It makes me want to go on holiday...
I am in love with this 50's cocktail/prom dress. It makes me think of handsome young men, courting their high school sweethearts and swinging them around the floor at the local dance hall before taking them out for a late night milkshake and stroll home in the moonlight, hand in hand.
Electric Shock - sheer funk and perfection.
I've made my love of big floral prints quite clear and here's another reason why I won't be backing down anytime soon. This is stunning and if I can fit my ample ladies into this dress, I'ma own it.
This is beautiful, very elegant and ladylike but at the same time I can see it being dressed up - or down, whatever way you look at it - into a fabulous rock chick chic outfit.
If we get rid of the black shoes in this picture, this is a perfect dress. I actually want to get married in this dress. It's sensational - what you don't see is that the back is a sheer lace panel. It's just enough without having a lace overload and in true Veruca Salt style I WANT IT. NOW.
1950's tea-party chic. It oozes what it meant to be a lady in the good old days. I can picture my Granny as a young twenty-somthing rocking this frock.
I die. There are no words.
I think it's safe to say I LOVE We Love To Boogie. Not only do they sell the most amazing vintage clothes but they'll even alter them for you too - and you can have a coffee and a surf on their free wifi while you wait. What more could a style-savvy Weegie girl want?
Love xoxo
